Popular, Creative and Innovative Therapeutic SEN Provision located in the London Borough of Bexley is recruiting an experienced and dedicated English HLTA. Full time 40 hours a week permanent position to start in September 2024.

The successful SEND English HLTA, ideally will have their Level 5 qualification and experience in working with vulnerable young people with SEMH, ASD, Complex Needs in therapeutic backgrounds. This is an exciting post where you will be responsible for teaching small classes of students in KS3, KS4, and functional skills, as well as preparing students for English GCSE exams.

If you are looking for an alternative setting where you can think outside the box, looking at ways to teach your students in their English and functional skills lessons; maybe in the outdoors working with animals from a therapeutic standpoint.  Students who attend all have a great passion for working with animals and regularly are within this environment outdoors at school. You are the type of English HLTA who has worked in either a mainstream school/ Alternative Provision / PRU or SEN School at KS3 & KS4.  You will also be required to plan, deliver and mark your lessons.

  • Qualified English HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant), ideally to Level 5
  • Teaching small groups of students with SEMH, Autism & Complex Needs
  • You are open to thinking ‘outside the box’, ie in an outdoor, supporting with the use of animals in a therapeutic setting
  • Plan and deliver engaging and challenging lessons that meet the needs of individual students.
  • Prepare students for KS3 & English GCSE exams.
  • Provide support to the English department in planning and delivering the curriculum.
  • Work with the SEN team to ensure that individual EHCPs are implemented and monitored.
  • Provide pastoral support to students as required.
  • Keep accurate records of student progress and provide regular feedback to students and parents/carers.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Experience of working with vulnerable young people with SEMH and ASD, Complex Needs, and therapeutic backgrounds.
  • Experience of teaching English at KS3 and KS4.
  • Experience of delivering functional skills qualifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for own workload.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively.
  • Knowledge of current SEND legislation and guidance.
  • In easy commutable distance to the London Borough of Bexley
